The reading room under the broken dome

A library city that tried to outlast the sea by growing salt. It worked: the salt kept the books and drowned the readers.

Layout

  • Entrance halls: shallow, open on every tide, picked clean in the first hours of play.
  • Second gallery: open on waxing and waning tides; crystal seams in the shelving.
  • Third gallery: open on spring tides only; the reading room and the Archivist.
  • The stacks: never dry. Reached with the diving bell from Alpha.

Rules of the place

  • Light comes from above (the broken domes) and from the crew's lanterns, nothing else.
  • Water inside rises 40 seconds after the horn: the archive gives one last grace period.
  • Salt grows on anything left behind for a tide, dropped tools included.

Who lives here: The Drowned Archivist. What the seams hold: Drop tables.
