# Export from Nodary

Everything you write in Nodary can leave with you, in open formats: one document or a whole project, at any time, even when a workspace is locked.

Updated on 22 October 2026.

## Export a document

From a document’s menu, choose:

- Markdown (.md): the text with its headings, lists and tables. Pictures, files and media become links.
- Word (.docx): a file to edit in Word or Google Docs.
- JSON (.json): the document’s blocks as data, for scripts.
- Tables as CSV (.csv): every table and sheet of the document.
- PowerPoint (.pptx): an editable deck, with native tables and charts.
- Print or save as PDF: a real page preview, with contents and page numbers.
- Present as slides: the document as 16:9 slides, which you can also save as PDF.

A document with pictures also has a feedback sheet, a PDF of each picture with its numbered notes and decisions, for an outside artist or studio.

## Export a whole project

1. On the map, open the project’s export and choose Export project.
2. Choose a format: Complete archive (.zip), recommended, Single Markdown file (.md) or Structured data (.json).
3. Wait while the archive is assembled in your browser, then save it.

- Complete archive: every document as Markdown with its pictures and files, editable sources for diagrams, boards and sheets, relative links that work offline, and the comments in project.json. It opens in any Markdown editor and imports back into Nodary.
- Single Markdown file: all the documents in one file, to read or paste elsewhere. Pictures stay online.
- Structured data: documents, blocks and links, for tools and scripts.

**Privacy:** the archive is assembled in your browser. Nothing is sent anywhere else.

## Read data from your tools

A sheet or a string table can also be read over HTTP with a read-only key, as JSON, CSV, gettext .po or XLIFF, so a build or a script always takes the current values.

## When a workspace is locked

A workspace locked above the free plan keeps two things open: subscribing and exporting. Nothing is deleted.

## What an export does not carry

- Version history stays in Nodary: an export holds the documents as they are now.
- A one-document Markdown export turns pictures, files and media into links. For a copy that keeps every block, export the project as a complete archive.
- A file that could not be downloaded is listed in the archive’s README.md and keeps its link to Nodary.

## Questions

### Can I leave Nodary with all my documents?

Yes. Export each project as a complete archive: Markdown documents, their files, editable sources and working links, readable without Nodary and importable into other Markdown tools.

### Can I export to Notion or Obsidian?

The complete archive is a folder of Markdown files with relative links, which Obsidian opens as a vault and Notion imports as Markdown.

### Does exporting need a paid plan?

No. Every plan exports, and a locked workspace keeps exporting open.
