# What is a team wiki?

A team wiki is a set of linked pages that any member can create and edit, so shared knowledge grows from everyone’s contributions.

## How it works

Ward Cunningham named the wiki in 1995 after the Hawaiian word for quick: the point was that anyone could change a page at once, and that pages linked to each other by name.

A team wiki keeps that idea inside a company: pages for processes, projects and references, a history of every change, and links that let readers move from one page to the next.

## An example

A studio’s wiki has a page per tool in its pipeline. The page about the build server links to the release checklist and to the incident log, and anyone who fixes a step updates the page the same day.

## Common mistakes

- Letting pages pile up with no owner and no date, until nobody knows which are current.
- Linking nothing, so the wiki is a list of separate pages rather than a web.
- Keeping decisions in chat and only the leftovers in the wiki.

## In Nodary

In Nodary, you link while you write: type [[ and a title, and the other document lists what links to it. Several people write in the same document at once, comments sit on the passage they discuss, and each editing session of up to ten minutes is kept as a version you can compare and restore.

**What Nodary does not do:** it does not publish a wiki as a website with its own domain; share links are read-only and live at a nodary.ai address.
