# Write the scenes beside the story bible they depend on.

Nodary reads screenplays written in Fountain, a plain-text screenplay format, and sets them as a script inside documents that link to the treatment, the characters and the scene breakdowns. Co-writers share one project, notes sit on the passage they discuss, and each editing session makes a version to compare.

## The problem, in your team’s words

A writers’ room produces more documents than script pages: the treatment, the character arcs, the outline, the notes from every read-through. They live in a screenwriting app, a word processor and a stack of shared documents, and the script drifts a little further from the bible with every draft.

> Which draft has the new ending?
>
> The character bible still has her old backstory.
>
> The notes from the table read are in three places.

## A week with Nodary

How a week can go once the work lives in Nodary. Each day uses something the product does today.

### Monday: Start from the treatment

Write the logline, synopsis, characters and tone from the Film Treatment template, then one Character Bio per lead and a Scene Breakdown per scene that needs one. Link them with [[Title]] so every page lists what refers to it, and the map shows the whole story at once.

### Tuesday: Write scenes in Fountain

Add a screenplay block and type Fountain: scene headings, action, character cues, parentheticals, dialogue and transitions. Nodary sets it as a script and keeps your source exactly as you typed it. Give each sequence its own document, linked to its scene breakdown and to the characters in it.

### Wednesday: Write together

The treatment, the bible pages and the notes co-type in real time, each cursor visible. A screenplay block saves as a whole, so two writers should not type in the same block at once: give each writer their own sequence, in its own block or document, and comment on the others. Comment on a passage with @mentions, replies and reactions, and resolve the note once the scene changes.

### Thursday: Compare the drafts

Each editing session of up to ten minutes makes a version, and each document keeps its 50 newest by people and 50 newest by agents: compare two word by word and restore one block or a whole draft. To keep a draft for good, save it as its own document. Mark the current draft canon and the previous one superseded, give each sequence a status and a due date, and see the writing schedule on the calendar.

### Friday: Read it, share it, take it with you

Print a document to PDF from a page preview for a read-through, or share a read-only link that needs no account. Export the project as a .zip in which each screenplay is a .fountain file you can open in another screenwriting app.

## A template to start from

Built-in template: Film Treatment

Film Treatment is one of Nodary’s 30 built-in templates, in 12 languages, with Scene Breakdown and Character Bio beside it. Start the project from the treatment and every other page of the bible has something to link to.

- The logline, then the synopsis in present tense
- Principal characters, each with what they want
- Tone and visual references in a callout

## Three requests for your AI agent

An agent connected over MCP reads the bible and the script together: it can find where a scene contradicts a character’s page, prepare scene breakdowns from the template, and say what changed between two drafts. Every write it makes keeps the version before it.

> Read the character bible and report every scene where Mara’s backstory contradicts it.

Tools it calls: `search_documents`, `get_document`, `report_contradiction`

> Create a Scene Breakdown from the template for each scene heading of the cold open.

Tools it calls: `get_document`, `create_from_template`

> Summarise what changed between the second and third drafts of episode two.

Tools it calls: `list_versions`, `diff_versions`

## What Nodary does not do

- Nodary reads a subset of Fountain: scene headings, action, character cues, parentheticals, dialogue, transitions, centred text, sections and synopses. Title pages, dual dialogue, lyrics and page breaks are not laid out, and notes and boneyard are hidden from the script.
- No Final Draft (.fdx) import or export, no scene numbers, no industry page count and no revision pages.
- A screenplay block holds up to 50,000 characters: write a feature sequence by sequence, in several blocks or documents.
- No offline mode and no desktop or mobile app: Nodary runs in the browser.

## The right plan

**Pro**: €15 per seat per month, billed monthly. For a solo maker or a small team ready to ship.

- Up to 5 members
- Up to 10 projects, unlimited documents
- 5 GB of files
- Studio AI: 800 ☄ per seat each month, shared by the team

A writer alone or with a partner can start on Free, but a story bible outgrows the free document limit quickly. Pro gives a small writers’ room unlimited documents and several projects.

## Questions

### What is Fountain?

A plain-text format for screenplays: you write scene headings, character names and dialogue as ordinary text, and a reader sets it as a script. Because it is plain text, a Fountain script moves between the many screenwriting apps that read it.

### Can I import my Final Draft script?

No. Nodary has no .fdx import or export. Paste the Fountain text of a script into a screenplay block, exporting it as Fountain from your screenwriting app first if the app offers it.

### Can several writers work on the same script at once?

Yes, sequence by sequence. Text pages co-type in real time with each cursor visible, but a screenplay block saves as a whole: give each writer their own sequence, in its own block or document, and comment on the others. Each version says who made it, so two drafts can be compared word by word.

### Is Nodary a full screenwriting app?

No. It is a writing and story-development workspace that reads Fountain. For a production draft with page-accurate formatting, scene numbers and revision pages, finish the script in a dedicated screenwriting app.

### Can I write interactive or branching stories?

Yes. A dialogue block writes branching dialogue as a script, plays it through, draws it as a graph, catches broken jumps and exports it to Yarn Spinner. Conditions and variables are not modelled.

## Other use cases

- [Worldbuilding](https://nodary.ai/solutions/worldbuilding): Places, factions, characters and events as linked lore entries, with canon marked and a chronology the whole team shares.
- [Creative and game studios](https://nodary.ai/solutions/creative-and-game-production): Briefs, art bibles and references beside the pictures they describe, with signed decisions and notes drawn on the work.
- [AI context management](https://nodary.ai/solutions/ai-context-management): Pick the sources, write the mission and take a checked brief to any AI, knowing what changed since you copied it.
