A Confluence alternative for small teams that want their documents to link.

Confluence organises pages in spaces and works hand in hand with Jira. Nodary puts a team’s documents on one map, with owners, reviews and a spreadsheet inside each page, and AI agents connected over MCP. Compared here against Atlassian’s own pages.

In short

Choose Confluence if

  • Your team plans in Jira and wants work items shown and created from its pages.
  • You need single sign-on (through Atlassian Guard), data residency in the EU or elsewhere, or administration for thousands of users.
  • You want approvals with several required approvers (up to five per space, on Premium and Enterprise), or mobile apps for iOS and Android.
  • Your documentation is organised by spaces and a page tree, and that suits you.
  • You want a lower price per seat: Confluence Standard lists US$7.15 per user per month for the first 100 users, against €15 for Nodary Pro.

Choose Nodary if

  • You want a project’s documents on one map that shows which depend on which, filtered to what is overdue.
  • You want review requests on every plan, Free included: Confluence documents approvals on Premium and Enterprise.
  • You want a superseded document to point to the one that replaces it, and AI agents told a document’s status before they read it.
  • You want AI agents that do not spend credits on their MCP calls (Atlassian’s Rovo MCP calls consume Rovo credits), with a version kept before every agent write.

Inside Nodary

A map you work on, not only look at

Every document of a project sits on one map, filed in folders you open like clusters. You drag a document to file it, draw a link that says why, assign it and filter the map to what is overdue, while your teammates’ pointers move on it live.

  • Links read the right way from either end: blocks, depends on, inspired by, related
  • Filter to what is yours, overdue, due this week or undated
  • Change the owner, status or due date of many documents at once, with Undo
  • Follow a teammate from the map into the passage they are reading

What it does not do The map shows documents and their links, not an RDF knowledge graph; graph views and canvases from other tools are not imported.

A sample game project on Nodary’s map: 43 documents grouped around eight area hubs, linked by hierarchy lines and labelled links, with two teammates’ pointers on the map.

Owner, status, review and truth on every document

Each document says who has it, by when and where it stands: draft, in review, approved, published, done or blocked. Ask one owner or admin of the workspace or of the document’s project to review it, or ask them all; one of them approves or requests changes with a note, signed with who and when, and the person who asked decides only when nobody else can. Mark it canon, exploration, obsolete or superseded, and agents are told before they read it.

  • Six work statuses and four truth statuses
  • When two documents disagree, both passages side by side, word for word
  • Live views list documents as a table, a board, a timeline or a progress chart
  • Review decisions can post to a Slack or Discord channel

What it does not do A review request names one reviewer, an owner or admin of the workspace or of the document’s project, or asks them all; there is no approval chain with several steps.

A game pitch open in Nodary’s editor: the outline, status, owner, due date and project properties in the left rail, the key art and the text in the page, and the document’s AI assistant on the right.

AI agents that work with your permissions

Studio AI works inside Nodary, and Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Claude Code or VS Code connect over MCP on every plan. An agent reads and writes documents block by block and sheets cell by cell, with the permissions of the person who connected it, and every write keeps the version before it.

  • 98 MCP tools, with OAuth or an API key that can be limited to one project
  • One connection can work in several workspaces you tick
  • Agents’ versions never push out people’s
  • Share links, members, roles, keys and billing stay human decisions

What it does not do Studio AI runs on Claude models through Amazon Bedrock in the United States, and its use is counted in Comets with a monthly allowance per plan.

The API keys and MCP section of a Nodary profile: the MCP endpoint to paste into Claude, Claude Code or any MCP client, and an agent key for one workspace.

Know whether the milestone lands

A live progress view reads the documents of a milestone: what is finished against scope, the burn-up, the pace you need and a verdict against your target date. A cut line shows what falls outside a budget in days or points.

  • Late documents listed first, with who has them
  • The same documents as a board, a timeline or a calendar
  • One rule decides what is overdue, everywhere
  • The owner is notified when a document is due within two days

What it does not do There is no time tracking, no task dependencies and no Gantt chart with links between tasks.

A live progress view for a sample milestone: finished against scope, the burn-up, the target date, and what is left with the late documents first and who has them.

Coming from Confluence

Nodary reads Confluence’s HTML export, page by page or a whole space, and shows you the tree before anything is written.

  1. In Confluence, a space admin exports the space to HTML (Atlassian’s help explains how). A single page can also be saved as HTML.
  2. In Nodary, open the project’s map, choose Import, then Import a folder, and drop the .zip.
  3. Check the preview: each page keeps its own title without the space name, and the files no page uses are listed.
  4. Import. Info, note and warning panels become callouts, task lists become checklists, code keeps its language, and expands become a heading with their content.
  5. Links between pages and the pictures they show come along.

Jira macros come in as whatever Confluence wrote into the export, never as live Jira data: Nodary has no Jira integration. One import brings up to 200 documents.

Questions

Is Nodary a Confluence alternative for small teams?

Yes, if your team wants linked documents more than a wiki organised by spaces. Teams that live in Jira, or need single sign-on, are better served by Confluence today.

Can I import Confluence pages into Nodary?

Yes: a space exported to HTML, or pages saved as HTML. Titles, callouts, task lists, code, expands, links and pictures come along, and you see the tree before importing.

Does Nodary integrate with Jira?

No. Nodary has no Jira integration. Each document carries its own owner, status, due date and review, and live views list documents as a board, a timeline or a progress chart.

How do prices compare?

For a team of five billed monthly, Confluence Standard lists US$35.75 a month (US$7.15 per user) and Nodary Pro €75, checked on 23 October 2026: Confluence Standard costs less per seat. Confluence’s plans include Rovo credits per user; Nodary Pro includes 800 ☄ of Studio AI per seat.
