A Milanote alternative for teams whose moodboards belong to the brief.

Milanote is a canvas of notes, images and links for creative projects. Nodary puts moodboards and boards inside the documents they serve, with each picture approved or sent back and signed, and the whole project on one map. Checked against Milanote’s own pages.

Inside Nodary

Moodboards that stay with the brief

A moodboard sits in the document it serves. Each reference keeps its source, credit, note, status and tags, and a palette is pulled from the pictures, named by role and checked for text contrast.

  • Approve, send back or reject each picture, signed with who and when
  • Palettes export to Photoshop, Krita or CSS
  • Preview colour-blind vision and check contrast against WCAG
  • Every picture of the workspace on one page, filtered by decision and tag

What it does not do Nodary keeps and reviews the pictures you add; it does not generate images or search the web for references.

An art bible’s moodboard in Nodary: eight painted references with captions, credits and art direction decisions, six approved, material swatches still to decide and a first key art rejected.

Feedback drawn on the picture

Circle, box or point at what to change on a picture, pin a numbered note and decide it. A picture keeps its 12 latest versions to compare and restore, and one printable feedback sheet goes to an outsourcer.

  • Zoom to 400 % and compare two versions with a slider
  • Mirror a picture, see it in values, check it against the palette
  • Comment on a point of a picture or a moment of a video
  • Signed decisions: approved, changes asked or rejected

What it does not do The feedback sheet is a PDF; there is no delivery link for people without an account.

A key art open in Nodary’s image viewer with three numbered notes: a circle around the sun, a box around the arches and a stroke across the clouds, each with the art director’s comment.

Boards inside the documents

A board lives inside a document: notes, shapes, arrows, freehand drawing, named frames, document cards and pictures, with snapping, locking and layers. Present it frame by frame from the keyboard while others follow.

  • Document cards open the document they stand for
  • Frames become slides for a review
  • Agents see a board as a picture and can edit it
  • Export a document to an editable PowerPoint

What it does not do A board is a block of a document, not a separate whiteboard app with its own sharing.

An art review board presented frame by frame in Nodary: the first frame shows the approved key art with its note, and the frame list names the next frames.

A team in the same documents

Teammates write in the same document at the same time, each cursor and selection visible, and changes to different cells of a sheet combine. Roles decide who edits, comments or reads, and the workspace’s activity shows who changed what.

  • Owner, admin, editor, commenter and reader, enforced on the server
  • Give one member access to a single document
  • Mentions, replies, reviews and assignments in one bell
  • On Studio, keep a project to the people added to it

What it does not do There are no guest seats: people outside the workspace read through share links.

A sample studio’s activity feed on Nodary’s home: teammates commenting, deciding pictures, requesting and approving reviews, changing statuses and editing documents, newest first.

Questions

Is Nodary a moodboard tool like Milanote?

It has moodboards, inside documents: each reference keeps its source, credit, note, status and tags, and a palette is pulled from the pictures. Milanote’s boards are a free canvas; Nodary’s boards and moodboards are blocks of a document, on a project map.

Can I review and approve pictures in Nodary?

Yes. Approve, send back or reject each picture from the keyboard, each decision signed with who and when; circle what to change on the picture and send an outsourcer one printable feedback sheet.

Can I bring my Milanote boards into Nodary?

Milanote exports a board as Markdown, Word or PDF and its images and files as a .zip (Milanote’s help). Nodary imports Markdown and Word files and pictures, but has no importer made for Milanote and we have not tested one, so the layout of a board does not come along.

How do prices compare?

Milanote. For five people billed yearly, Milanote’s team plan is US$49 a month (up to 10 people) and Nodary Pro €60; billed monthly, Milanote is US$62.50 for five and Nodary Pro €75, checked on 23 October 2026. Milanote costs less per person.

Does Nodary have mobile apps?

No native app: Nodary runs in the phone’s browser, with a capture sheet for a note or a photo, and can be installed from the browser. Milanote has apps for iPhone, iPad, Android and desktop.
